Every time I buy a new printer, I vow that the next one will be a color laser - but so far, that hasn't happened. When my previous Brother multi-function died recently (after some 8 years of faithful service), I decided that THIS time I'd get that color laser, and researched them. Then I discovered that mere mortals can buy a duplexing (prints both sides) one, two-tone as well as color, and the price works out about the same. Since I already have access to an excellent color inkjet, I decided to forego the color in favor of the duplexing, and I'm really glad I did; I've probably saved a ream of paper so far. We haven't tried the color scanning yet (my husband also has a stand-alone scanner), but having a flat-bed scanner is a big advantage for copying a page from a book or magazine. I haven't had this printer for more than a couple of months, so I really can't say how thriftily it uses toner (the last one was very good). We don't have a true network here at home, so I can't comment on its networkability, either. I'm really delighted that I decided to buy this printer-scanner-copier (the previous one also faxed, but e-mail has replaced the fax machine - we bought one house and sold another 500 miles apart just by e-mail). If nothing else, I'll save a ton of gas taking less paper to the recycling station. Vive la duplexing!Read full review
