The printer itself is obsolete unless you need it as I do. This printer is one of the few avilable on line that works with Mac 0S 9.2.2. I use a long non supported program from Apple, Claris Draw. I have numerous templates on my old Mac G4 that can only pe printed using this printer. I cannot recommend it against the lates printers out there; it is noisy, slow and print quality is good, not great. But, if you need a color laser printer that works with OS 9.2.2, it is the best one out there in my view.

I noticed the info said Printer for Parts when I got it. I checked it out and deep inside the paper path I found a paper jam. I had to remove the fuser part in the printer to remove paper jam. It then printed good. Quality was OK, but not great. I called service Tech to come in and Tuneup, after which the HP 2840 printed great. I have owned another HP2840 for 10 years got it new and this HP2840 printed like it was new. Tony Graf

We bought this all in one to replace another one that is identical but it had a card reader issue then started giving messages about scanner problems so for the price I decided to pick this one up and use the other for parts if need be. I am very impressed with the quality of the print. If you don't mind all the sounds it makes to print then it's a good printer. I would have liked it to be able to scan through the network but this model is not capable of that, only through the usb cable it will scan to one computer. The bad about this model is the notorious problems with the card reader and the scanner failure. Once you start getting those, better just suck it up and get another machine. I prefer Brother myself but the price was right for this one.
The purchase of this product was to replace another 2840 that could not be repaired. This printer appears to be the best value in a segment that HP no longer addresses. To find a comparable product in the current HP line, you would have to spend closer $1500. This is misclassified as just a printer - it is a multifunction printer. It includes a fax, scanner, black & white copier, as well as a color copier. In addition, it may be used as a network printer or a dedicated printer. The printed images are crisp and clean, for 300 DPI. Pages have that professional feel for a laser printer - and it is a color laser printer. We tend to print a fair number of pages for proposals, and requests for information. So, ink jets are not an economical option from an operational perspective. This printer uses individual CMYK cartridges, so we replace what we use. When I last calculated our cost per sheet, it was somewhere between 5 and 7 cents per sheet. Like many HP printers, the previous 2840 (and this one thus far) has been as solid as a tank. I give it a Good rating and not an excellent rating because of their software support for Mac OS X. It is not as robust as it should be, nor does it support printing from multiple systems as it should. We have to share a printer on a specific system in order to print. This was the case with the previous 2840 as well - it appears that beyond a certain version of the driver software, the printer would no longer allow multiple systems to print to it directly. However, this i not a showstopper for us, but an irritation. If something occurs to the one system that prints directly, we have to reconfigure the printer on all of the other systems.Read full review
I use my HP 2840 laser printer for my real estate office and I love it. Drivers can be downloaded at the HP website. For Windows 7 it's very easy with instructions available at the HP website. Hint: You must use the Windows Vista version and change compatibility plus change some files which is all explained at the HP website. One downside is that I've had issues with the HP Solution Center software for scanning. I've had to restore my Windows 7 operating system and reinstall the drivers but I would not give up this laser printer. It is a great workhorse.
