One of the better written books I have read. The story moves quickly and never fails to hold your interest. There is hardly a page that goes by where I didn't just laugh out loud at something Mr. Drmille expresses about the characters and/or setting. I had previously read several of this author's books including Nightfall and Wildfire, both of which are very different but ones that I also would recommend. I bought The Gold Coast after seeing so many of my friends, while recently on a vacation, reading The Gatehouse. That's when I found out that it was a sequel to The Gold Coast so guess what my next book purchase will be???
Picked this book up on a neighbor's recommendation. DeMille's style is like listening to a friend relating a good story. Though a longer book, it is quick reading because of the involvement with the characters and story line. Many chapters end with a hint of what's to come, making it hard to find a stopping point! I'm already looking forward to "The Gate House," as I finish the last couple chapters. I am thrilled to have found a new(to me)and interesting author.
DeMille has become my newest obsession and I'm reading his books as fast as I can either buy them or get them from my library. Once you start you can't put his stuff down. Trust me. His wit, his ability to transport you to the locations of his tales, and the way he weaves his fascinating characters within the story lines are pure genius! Just try to walk away from one of his tales!

I mainly bought this book because I knew I was going to get The Gate House for Christmas. Actually, I had read the Gold Coast many years ago but decided to read it again since The Gate House is a sequal to Gold Coast. I enjoyed The Gold Coast the first time I read it and enjoyed it even more the second time. It's a very good book and would highly recommend that anyone who is anticipating reading The Gate House, do read the Gold Coast first since they are very much linked together. In my opinion Nelson DeMille can't write a bad book, and the Gold Coast is especially good, as is The Gate House.
I am a big fan of Nelson DeMille and I don't know how I missed this one. It is probably his best book-yet a complete departure from most of his other books. I read the review of his latest book and it mentioned that it was a sequel to "The Gold Coast". It was then that I realized that I had never read this, and so purchased it. After reading this I can't wait to read the sequel! The characters are, to a certain extent, caracatures-but are not that far away from people I've met on Long Island, where the action takes place. Read it-you'll like it!
