How can any report of American involvement in Vietnam not contain even one reference to HK? Actually, because of this I did not read the book at all; I feel the author may have had 3 fingers pointing back at himself by using that title.

This book should be required reading for every Member of the US Congress, every Judge and Justice sitting on a US Court, and every member of the Executive Branch of the US Government from the President of the US to the cadets and students being trained to be our future military and national leaders. The dereliction of duty ascribed to President Johnson, Secretary McNamara and General Maxwell Taylor as our country became embroiled in the war in Vietnam could be considered criminal tantamount to treason. A similar pattern seems to be repeating itself now in September and October 2009. We need transparency without compromising national security, and we need accountability among all branches of our government. The lessons to be learned from McMaster's book "Dereliction of Duty" may help us avoid making the same mistakes again.Read full review
