Not our cup of tea
We recently purchased and watched 2010: A Space Odyssey and decided to purchase 2001: A Space Odyssey for the decade this movie was filmed the special effects were outstanding. I also noticed what was science fiction during the time of this movie is now every day tech. Now no the not so good: If we did not watch the sequel would would have been lost watching the first movie. About 20 years ago I remember starting to watch this movie and stopped because I thought it was boring. Towards the end of the movie it looked like the producer and company dropped some acid during filming. This DVD movie will be put on a shelf and never watched again.

Well it is truly a great movie The only problem I have with it is just too much music.. especially for the intro way too long before the movie actually starts with the first scene.. the picture quality seems to be very good but should be more crispr since it's on Blu-ray as well as 2010 there are some scenes that they really should have touched up as far as picture quality but all in all two good movies so by all means get both on Blu-ray

2001, the most impotant film ever?
2001 A Space Odyssey was the marriage of cinematic genius Stanley Kubrick with the equally renowned sci-fi novelist Arthur C. Clarke. The film effects of Kubrick's were ground breaking for the time - if you like special effects in movies, you need to thank Kubrick for getting it all started. The theme(s) of the movie are multi layered and most certainly intentionally ambiguous, leaving the film open to lots of interpretation. If you watched it and said "What the heck was that all about?" you aren't the only one. The film takes several viewings to take it all in. For a first viewing, just sit back and enjoy the ride. 2001 could be the most important film ever, it's that important.

It is an ok movie
As a classic movie about space travel made in the 1960's, it is an ok movie. It is too narrative for me. There is no by the edge of a seat action. The images and simulations are very sharp. It makes think that it was made at very later days. I still recommend it.
