Without a shadow of a doubt, our hero Edward Carnby (Christian Slater) is the Total Ritmo of all characterizations within paranormal studies or science fiction lovers in the entire world. I would rather watch Christian Slater in any film other than not. However, watching this film was very disengaging when the killing begins. The monsters were extremely unbelievable. It's tiresome to try to keep up with the swarm, since there were so many of them. It seemed like, from the very beginning that they became more like cartoons than realistic. The scene of them swarming out of the woods was extremely disrupting. This film would have been better if the old guy just went bananas than to have the fake monsters running towards you in the forrest. The film was in itself extremely believable, as long as you stuck with the narrative and followed the story-line, but as soon as you saw the monsters, it ruined the film. The CGI ruined this film. You could obviously feel the difference in knowing that, as soon as CGI kicked in it was totally a washout. During the time between, Titanic and Avatar, we all expected Hollywood to do almost everything, yet this year was a total washout when it came to CGI. The technology was there, however, it didn't really jive. Most importantly, If you go back in time and watch films such as Aliens (Sigourney Weaver), you will notice a more realistic representation of the Alien creatures that are totally real and walk across small crevices on their own four legs upside down moving independently of computer modeling. Tara Reid has made some really raunchy films in this genre. She did a wonderful job making this film believable along with Stephen Dorf, the young pouting Commander Richard Burke. Along with hundreds of fill-ins with military footage, Mark Acheson as Captain Chernick was among hundreds that help this film get off the ground. I'll definitely give the director, Uwe Boll Kudows for allowing the CGI department to stay away from many important shots. Next time he leaves the film science up in 2010, or forward, then he needs to know that a 2005 film now is so totally unbelievable because the all seeing eye will spot CGI from a mile off, since the technology has changed immensely. Forgetting everything else in this film, I will have to say that stunt man Ed Anders as Carnby in the first sequence of the fight scene in China town was so worth the entire film that I will never forget it. It's almost like watching the Tailand actor Tony Jaa in 2008s Ong-Bak 2 or 2003 the Thai Warrior. This is where the martial art of Muay Thai: the 9 Body Weapons becomes and example. In this world, you obviously need to learn from success. Here, in his world you have to agree that it is totally better to have no stunt doubles, no computer images, no strings attached. With no computer graphics, no stunt doubles, no wires, the director here admits that he was born to present a film in raw form. In other words, there is no ridiculous mentality where there is a battle between new world "Avatar" thought & old fashioned "Deliverance" directing where hundreds of film hours are worked out in a studio with graphic computer designers. I'm not saying that I don't think this film is trash, however, there were too many things wrong with this film more than there were right. Christian Slater & Tara Reid can still produce in Hollywood, but it's going to take other directors with a greater vision to bring their creativity to life.Read full review
