I bought this game for my 6 year old son because he loves to watch Avatar! Him and his dad both really enjoy this game. The game is simple enough for my son but yet entertaining enough for my husband. It's mainly following a story line while completing tasks asked of you. One thing to remember, there is A LOT of reading involved with this game. So, if you have a young Avatar fan with limited reading skills, you will have to read the story line on screen to them so they will know what/how to complete the tasks.
I like the show on TV and this game was pretty good. Some of the game play is waaay too easy, but I think simple games have a place in one's gaming library. The graphics were good, not blocky or anything. The sound had simple f/x. The movement and fighting sometimes awk, and the story/gameplay linear. My daughter, age 8, loves the show and enjoys the game as well.
The game in itself is ok, but there is absolutely toooo much dialog. The begining scenes start out slow and easy and are reminescent of those at the begining of season two. But things started getting sketchy and I found myself wondering "When did THIS happen in the series?!" As for graphics, pixelated Aang, Katara, and the gang are cute and all but can be a bit annoying if one is really trying to get into the gameplay aspect of it. The fight scences aren't very intricate as well. They're more like a quick splashes of paint than the artist brush strokes that we've become accustom to on the televsion series. All in all, I think that this game is a very good subsittute for children age 5 to 10 ( and 10 is REALLY pushing it). If you are looking for a version of this game that offers gameplay and action that is truer to the series, but is still in a convenient handheld, than I would advise getting the psp version. The images and recaps are clearer and the action scences are way more defined. This allows for a deeper, more immersing and in my opinion, more satisfying gameplay.Read full review
