Surprising full-range response for a 5-1/4" 2-way speaker! It's a touch smaller in mounting than some competitors, and the basket may be smaller. I use duct seal in automotive applications to improve the baffle contact. Remember, you want a good seal along the edges if installing in a car door, since the door itself has to act as an isobaric chamber, despite holes all over the place. There is a red wire running to the negative terminal and a black wire running to the positive terminal, which may be a bit confusing, but just follow the markings on the terminals to guarantee proper phase with other speakers. Treble response and coverage from the central tweeter is good, but car door speakers tend to be poorly positioned for treble, so consider adding a discrete pair of tweeters. Power handling is also excellent with minimal distortion! These are priced above the "budget" price range, but they're still very inexpensive, and they continue to uphold Rockford Fosgate's reputation for quality.Read full review

they sound just like your average factory speakers., even thought they're hooked to a same brand 250W amp

I've had these in my 85 Mazda RX7 for a month now and they are excellent. I replaced my 4" (standard size for the front kick panels in this car) with these 5 1/4 inch Rockford Fosgate speakers and they are outstanding for the money. They put out a warm, rich sound with plenty of bass. I've read a couple of reviews that said they aren't real big on the bass but just adjust your stereo equalizer or settings and boost the bass. They'll give you more than enough that way. I bought these two way speakers instead of three ways for a reason. Most three way speakers tend to put out too much treble for my liking, even if you adjust it down on your stereo. I'm a rock and roller (and also like some good fast pop rock music) and midrange is king (my opinion), with clear, not screeching highs, and a good, well defined bass. These give you exactly that (be sure to adjust your stereo according to your taste). That all being said, if you are into the big boom bass box sound with a 500 plus watt stereo (nothing wrong with that if you are), these won't have that capability. I've got a 60 watt Kenwood in my car and even up to about 80% of the stereo's limit these speakers stay nice and clear with no buzzing or distortion. Above that they do start to distort a bit but even at 80% these speakers put out volume beyond the threshold of pain, for me anyway. If you want bigger, ear crushing volume, I'd still recommend Rockford Fosgate higher end speakers based on what mine sound like (which is very good).Read full review
These were easy too install and are good speakers. I have them running off an amp and they seem to have a decent amount of headroom to them. The highs are bright and the mids are clear, but they don't seem to have much bass. Will let them break in and then try to dial them in better. That and add a subwoofer.

Good replacement for my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 rear door speakers. You will need an adaptor and the one I purchased did not work because it is also for a 6 1/2 inch and too large to fit in the space. I ended up just drilling new holes and that worked fine. Sound quality is as good or a little better than stock because it has a seperate tweeter. I have also paired them with the Rockford 6x9's for the front (2 way, same design) and they sound great together.
