THIS IS A MUST READ FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS HAPPINESS AND LOVE!!!!. While I do not accept a few of the authors generalizations and do not necessairily agree with all of his black/white view of love and reltionships, he is totally and absolutly on track! This book is the most revolutionary and insightful book on love and relationships I have ever read - and I have read quite a few. The concept of real(unconditional) vs imitation (conditional) love is powerful and valuable. It protects the person willing to love unconditionally; from hurt, harm, anger and most pain. It is a simple concept which is both easy and difficult to incorporate into our lives but it is truely the salvation of most of our relationships. And does this in a calm, gentle and loving way. The concept can heal, and improve, virtually all relationships. I cannot say enough positive about this book except to say to the Dr. Baer; Thank you and I love you! RalfRead full review
I could see my life as well as many other people in my circle. It gave me some very useful tools to use to help me with my personal interaction with the people in my life. It made me think and see how I respond to people and situations so that I may make better choices. We can only control ourselves which is something that was brought out into the forefront with this book. I realize that being positive 100% of the time is difficult, but the tools in this book can assist a person in atleast finding healthier ways to deal with our emotions. I highly recommend it to everyone willing to take steps to improve their life and maybe find that peace they have been in search of.
Like to know what might be going wrong in your relationships or life? This book explains in plain words the behaviors we are all raised with and why they do not work. A reak easy read, full of usefull information. Have bought it for friends. This along with "A Return to Love" by Marianne Williamson are an incredible duo in learning about life, and what it can truely offer...

I thought this book contained a lot of good information about relationships, particularly romantic relationships. I was hoping the book would focus more on parent/child relationships. There was a lot in the book about how people didn't feel real love during childhood and it was because parents expressed disappointment when children make mistakes. As a parent, I would have liked to read more about how to handle our children's mistakes (examples, etc.) Anyone have any recommendations?
