While used, Intel CPUs last for decades and can be easily installed within an older PC for maximizing available cache and clock speed. In this case, the Q9550 has the same amount of cache and is only modestly slower in clock than the top-of-the-line Q9600, but comes in at half the cost.

Works good to get older 2 core machines work a bit faster with this 4 core. At first it would not run on 4 cores and only 2 cores were used at a slower speed than before with the 2 core 3.2GHz (duh!) . (Dell optiplex 380) I got it (after a little search and trial by error), to work by switching OFF Intel speedstep in the Bios / boot-setup. Happy camper now... :D

All though it's a great, fast CPU AM2+/AM3 socket. It's not completely compatible with the AM2+ socket, motherboard states non-compliance at start-up and shut down. Have to restart and press F2 or F12 to boot. After this pc performance is quick, very reliable and responsive. Max Ram 4GB

Worked great, booted right up in my IPIBL-LB(Benicia) motherboard. All cores detected, correct speed detected. No crashes or blue screens with a OC of 3.25GHz. Only downside was that I bought this to replace a Q6600 that I thought was dead, turns out it was my Gigabyte mobo that died. Oof.

It is an excellent processor and powerful enough for gaming and browsing the web. The only problem that I'm having is that in Windows 10 doesn't go to 100% it only stays up to 91% and it stays at a Max clock speed of 2.66ghz instead of 2.83ghz . However in Windows 7 it goes to 100% and 2.83ghz.
