I really like this movie. So many times we as people tend to fill a void in our life with things that we think will truely satisfy us. Yet within we have this heavyness that in some cases can lead into depression and then sometimes in cases, suicide. We can try to believe in the false things of life but it will still never take away that heavyness within no matter what we try. This myth was started because people just didn't want to face the facts untill this little girl just wants to get rid of this heavyness that is on her. She tries the myth yet doesn't find satisfaction and the heavyness is still there. Then she later finds the truth. We may try to believe the lies out of our own pride yet if we admit we are never satisfied with the lies of life untill we admit we are wrong and come to find what the Truth really is. Life is short. We are not meant to live forever. So what we do here on earth really truely will determine where we spend eternity. Are you ready to face eternity?? It is going to happen and we aren't always garanteed tomorrow. Oh, and I bought this movie because it was another movie advertised on another christian film I have at home.Read full review
This movie tells a tremendous true story. While most Americans don't know about some of the strange spiritual practices that were brought here by immigrants long ago, this movie tells of a community of people who embraced the idea of a "sin eater". It's a wonderful story of a community who comes to understand that Jesus is the Last Sin Eater and they don't have to follow the occultic practices that plague them any longer. Michael Landon, Jr. has once again brought us a movie worth watching. Although there are some cheesy special effects, the story is rushed, and the characters aren't developed very well, it is still worth the watch.
This is a very heart-warming, touching movie about the struggles of a young girl, heavy-laden with the burden and guilt of the death of her younger sister. She searches for the local "Sin Eater", as part of their culture. When her guilt remains, she finds relief in an outsider, a man of God, who has come to their area, a very closed group, to bring the Gospel message of Jesus' death and restoration for all willing to receive His free gift of salvation. I don't typically like "Little House on the Prairie" type movies, so I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this movie. It was sweet, yet held my interest well. There were twists and turns to the plot, so it wasn't the type of movie that you could easily guess the outcome and ending. That was especially nice. It showed how even with different cultures, the message of Jesus' love, hope and a desire to restore all of mankind can reach through any barrier, if we're willing. I think this would be a wonderful movie to show in a church group setting, as well. It's so difficult to find those. I feel we need more movies like this!Read full review
We had rented this DVD and enjoyed it very much. It is well-written and the cast really brings to light some of the practices of our early ancestors. What was really interesting was that a young girl was the one who helped shed light on the truth. The scripture that says "...a young child shall lead them..." is very apparent in this movie. It's a very family-oriented film which most ages would enjoy. We highly recommend this movie.
This is a beautiful story about redemption and forgiveness. The story is told through the eyes of a child who desparately seeks forgiveness for perceived sins and can't wait until death for the sin eater to set her free. Unlike the adults in the movie who also wrestle with guilt, she actively seeks a way to be forgiven now. Against the will of some people in the community, she seeks out the sin eater, who can't help her. Then a chance encounter with a stranger camped in the area changes her life forever. He unfolds the plan of salvation to her and the effect it has on her is just beautiful to watch. No one could predict the affect that this encounter would have on the whole community. This story is very uplifting and inspirational.
This is a great Christian movie that deals with deep issues of life. Highly recommend it!

The Last Sin Eater is the greatest Christian movie I have ever seen. I bought a DVD for all of my 4 children for Christmas. I then bought one for my best friend so that she could watch it and share it with her family. It has everything you would want in a movie; excitement, emotion, darkness yet light, exposes sin, a wonderful plot, and how the TRUTH will set people free. I highly recommend it and think it should have received an oscar for best movie of the year.
This movie, on the surface, appears a bit strange. It seems to me to have several layers of plot and meaning. I enjoyed the movie, and by the end I was well-pleased. The subject is a bit strange: a family in the 1800's who has been through a major crisis. The young girl becomes fascinated or obsessed by getting her sins "eaten" so she can shed her guilt. The Sin-Eater is an ancient tradition brought to America with these local folks that is so off-base you find yourself cheering for redemption from not only the guilt of the young girl, but redemption from an ancient, misguided tradition as well. You will not be disappointed. Watch this movie!
I loved everything about this movie. A 10 year old girl telling what happened to her while looking for help and forgiveness because she feels responsible for the death of her little sister Ellen. She thinks only the person of the Sin Eater from among them can help her. She then finds the real SIN EATER who can take all of the guilt and shame from her in the roaming preacher she meets. When the chief elder from the community kills the preacher Caddie Forbes(the girl) takes up the challange to spread GOD'S WORD to all around. BEAUTIFUL AND MOVING STORY FOR ALL. AWANAKARD
Every Christian should buy this movie and show it to their friends who are not yet Christians. I have seen dozens of movies that have tried to explain the redemptive work of Christ but none that held a candle to this one. Michael Landon Jr. does an excellent job of directing this movie and the actors truly bring home a powerful message in a simple but not preachy way. This is a must have movie.
