It certainly helps that Jodi Picoult is definitely one of my favorite authors. I have always admired her strong, clear writing style, her ability to evoke emotions throughout an entire story and her very gentle way of placing plot twists and turns in unexpected ways. I read this book in a day, scarcely able to set it down for an instant, and when I actually had to, I found myself genuinely missing the characters, wondering what would happen next and more. The book has a series of flashbacks that are very well laid out in the story. There is no confusion about timing or events and it was a wonderful way to explain the siatuations that led to the end result. Ms. Picoult took a very serious and powerful subject and told the story through multiple situations and characters. It was hard to dislike any of the characters even for what they had done. The story unfolds as a school shooting has taken place and the events that led up to it are told in a very sympathetic fashion. There is a major twist in the story that comes to light towards the end of the story that you didn't see coming, and it made for a powerful message that clearly makes you think and wonder about what goes on inside a persons mind. I checked this book out of the library originally to read it, when I finished it, I bought the book. I have read it twice since then and will probably read it again. Ms. Picoult's vivid story telling makes her a favorite among all of her readers and this book is by far one of her best.Read full review
A very real yet sad story that we hear about far too many times the author is fantastic and makes her reader think more

This book is very well written and reads easily. I also found the content to be right on the money as far as how kids are so cruel to each other. However, I personally would not have picked this book to read. (I read it as part of a book club.) I already worry and fear for my children's safety enough on my own.
this book says it all in this page turner. It takes 19 minutes to color your hair, watch a third of a hockey game, mow your lawn, do laundry for five people, and 19 min for your world to tear apart when their is a school shooting in your town. will this small town ever heal. when the town geek filled with rage from years of abuse turns fire on the school for revenge. Great book by far one of her best
Nineteen minutes is a considerable amount of time to do certain tasks, washing your face, brushing your teeth, fixing lunch. The acts that take place during these Nineteen minutes though are more Earth shattering, and more complex than any up until now. The deliberate acts of a young boy take a town to its very core, exposing members of the community to their very souls. Jodi Picoult is rapidly making a name for herself as she tackles subjects considered taboo until recently. Covering such topics such as teenage pregnancy, suicide, kidnapping, and more, Mrs. Picoult takes her readers into the very depth of her thoughts and feelings on subjects most people are afraid to broach. Nineteen Minutes takes you into a small town and returns a few characters from previous novels. A teenage boy as normal as the sun, takes the town hostage with his actions. Deliberately thought and planned out, his chosen Nineteen Minutes of fame impacts the entire population and will send a message to any and all who read about it.Read full review
