  • Death Without Company

Craig Johnson is an excellent story teller. I especially enjoy his humor mixed with the mystery. I have always liked western stories and mysteries and he mixes the two to make top entertainment. His descriptions of the mountains and settings really help you see just where the action is. I have read 3 Longmire novels and am well into the 4th and I highly recommend all of them.

  • All Hale Longmire

Gotta say any Longmire book is well worth the read. The author includes a lot of western (Wyoming or Absoroka if you will) flavor. Just enough humor to keep anybody pleased while Walt works amazing cases.

  • Craig Johnson-keep writing!

The book was preowned but in excellent condition for soft cover and it was a low cost purchase. The second in the Longmire series by Craig Johnson brings out the early tensions between the Sheriff and deputy Vic and early relationship with the former retired sheriff. Good surprise ending. I"ve already ordered #3.

  • The detail is interesting but not tedious

I generally like the Walt Longmire mysteries. The idea of an American Indian running a bar really drops a clanger with me, though, because of the sad prevalence of alcoholism among these people; although if anyone can handle it, the Bear can. Usually several times in one of these books, I find words whose meanings simply don't match up with the way they're used. I don't know if that's Johnson or his copy editor, but it's really distracting. I like the detail; it fills out the characters and the environment without overwhelming them and making me want to skip paragraphs.

  • Basquing in the past

To find out who may have killed an elderly Basque woman in a nursing home, Walt Longmire runs up against old animosities, a reclusive Basque family, a buried romance, death threats, and the secret, surprising marriage of someone close to him. It's a complicated case, and Walt should tred lightly, but he needs the truth in order to save a life. Well written and fast paced.

  • Moving in to the next book.

His books are an easy read with a lot of set, snarky humor. I love the plot twists that he intermingles in to his stories as well. It keeps me engaged.

  • Longmire character compelling.

The Walt Longmire character is a very likable guy. Someone you wouldn't mind sitting down and talking with. He would be a good companion on a hike or jaunt out into the back country.
