This was suggested by our Guide in Egypt this year to get an idea of what Cairo was like before Nasser kicked out all the “foreigners” even though they had been there for centuries. A sad but real story. A very compelling read.

This is a beautifully written (non-fiction) book about a Jewish family's odyssey from Cairo to Paris to New York. The author drew me into their world and I was sad to leave it when I finished the book. I am recommending it to all of my friends.
Excellent book- explains history that is not well-known--- we learn much about Jewish life in Egypt although when thinking of this, not too many people are aware that there was any Jewish life in Egypt in the 1950's.
