The Swiss Family Robinson was originally published in German in 1812 and titled: "Der Schweizerische Robinson" by Swiss pastor Johann David Wyss, and edited by his son Johann Rudolf Wyss. The story is about a Swiss family that is marooned on an island and must make the best of their new lives. During their stay on the island they encounter many different animals and creatures and must learn to adapt to the ever changing environment. The story is told by the Father in a narrative. The members of the family include: Elizabeth- The mother, Fritz- The oldest of the four sons, Ernest- The second oldest, Jack- The third oldest and Franz- The youngest. Later in the story Jenny arrives, she is an English girl who is found on Smoking Rock and is adopted into the family. This is a great story that tells of family values, dealing with adversity and growing up in a household in less than ideal circumstances. A great read and recommended for all.Read full review
