I picked up a copy of this book at a local store, as I had read some of the author's other work. After reading just a few chapters, I decided several of my friends could benefit from reading it, so I made gifts of the copies purchased on ebay. I also purchased a copy of the DVD church study guide to share with my friends. I recommend this book to anyone who suffers from any level of depression, whether you admit it or not! God provides for all our needs, and looking to Him is the only way to find true peace. All we have to do is turn to our Creator to repair the damage we have done to His creation. The enemy (Satan) wants to keep us in the muddy pit, the valley of our lives. We can do him no harm when we dwell in the darkness of the pit. So, in Beth Moore's words: "Get Out Of That Pit"! Start living in the Light of the World and find peace in God's love. This Book is not a substitute for the Bible, and doesn't claim to be. It's just a reflection of one fine Christian lady's journey out of her own pit, using and claiming God's promises as a road map, in hopes that somehow her writing can help others can find their way back to God's will. This author has a writing style that keeps you interested and if you've ever gone through a Beth Moore Bible study, you can visualize her standing there, sharing her heart with a huge group but at the same time, you think she's only talking to you. Great personal witness from a great author.Read full review
I believe that everyone at sometime in their life will be put in a pit. Either they put themself there or other people put them there. Sometimes just this un-Godly world will throw us there. I know a lot of Godly people that struggle day to day because of their pit. I was at one of our Beth Moore Bible study's and I noticed that one of the ladies had this book. She said she was going through a hard time and this book was a key point in guiding her down the right path and helping her get through this hard time. I have worked with a lady for 3 years now. The things she faces on a daily bases we could not imagine. We stay after work many days to just talk and let her vent. I'm not a saint and I am a Christian in progress. So I try my best to give her Godly advice and scripture for her to read. But I thought what better gift to give her this Christmas then this book. If it can help Christian get out of their pit and help them with what they are struggling with then I has to help my friend. Especially when she feels the only safe-haven is her place of employment. My hope with this book and through Beth Moore knowledge and experience that this will bring peace to my friends heart! I have not had a chance to read this book yet but I have every intention on this being my next read.Read full review
Last year was one of the very worst of my life -- and I was truly in the pit!!! I had a bad reaction to a popular prescription medication, used by many doctors. But I found out that as a person ages, medications can work differently -- and it certainly did for me! I went from being a person living a wellness lifestyle to one with dementia. I was 72 years old and spent five weeks in the Behavioral Unit to counteract the medication. On top of that, late in my stay I fell, re-injuring my pelvis which had been broken almost a year earlier. Talk about being pushed into a pit! I really felt that I had been in a dark hole from which I was afraid I would never really emerge. I really appreciated so much that Beth Moore could identify with me, and show me the way out of the pit I was still in. The quality of writing was excellent with humor sprinkled throughout the pages. Best of all, she actually was able to help me learn how to get out; and to stay out!Read full review
I bought this book because a friend recommended it while I was going through some tough times of betrayal. I really like the practical advice Beth Moore gives. There are three ways to get in a pit: thrown in, slip in and jump in. I could see how each one has happened to me over the course of my life. The book really changed my way of thinking. I finally feel that God has delivered me: I am standing up on the rock. She uses Psalm 40:1-3 as her Scripture reference point for being in a pit and being delivered. I did find some of her personal stories to be a bit lackluster, but not enough to turn me away from the message. Once I understood how much God loves me and wants me back, I was raring to go! My copy is dog-eared, hi-lited and underlined. She has so many good points; I continue to re-read them. I highly recommend this book.Read full review
I bought this book because my Women's Book Study Group at church is reading it. We read a chapter a week and then get together on Monday nights to discuss it. As with all of the Beth Moore books I have read and heard about ~ it is an awesome book. It is a powerful tool and you simply cannot walk away from this book not feeling like you have received a blessing from it! I recommend it to women of all ages, races and religions who have ever felt like they were stuck in a rut or just want to feel great about themselves again!!
