This is one of the most famous uses of plugging a guitar straight into a mixing console and creating the now referred to as “Direct-In Distortion". That tone is one of the most recognizable and unique guitar tones of the last 60 years and was one of the inspirations for the JHS Colour Box that we released in May of 2014.
The crayon is super fun to play around with, you can get awesome fuzz Lo-Fi tones very easy. It's sensitive to picking dynamics, so slamming it's input with an overdrive / distortion gets it real distorted all the time.... Knobs have drastic range. So many tones to find. I love this pedal!
I've owned roughly 10 JHS products and 9 out of 10 were knocked out of the park just as I expected. This pedal though does more than I thought possible! I bought it for Beatles fuzz and there are so many great sounds before that point. Plus it's a cool boost. Doesnt hurt that it looks really cool too!
