Starship Tycoon is a business simulation set in a futuristic sci-fi universe. In the role of interplanetary shipping barons, players compete against computer-controlled companies for profitable clients, contracts, and cargo. Players design and run their own transport starships, choosing both the goods they carry and the crews that run them. Types of cargo vary, both in the profit they offer and the risk they bring. Managing the crew can be a challenging task as well, but happy mates make the best workers. (Of course, some tycoons may choose to hire an all-robot crew, and avoid the messy interpersonal management altogether). In addition to the game's main, mission-based campaign, an open-ended "sandbox" mode is also available. Another whimsical feature allows players to automatically assign names to in-game characters based on entries in their e-mail address book.
