Great game, deep story. Looks and sounds amazing for a Game Boy Advance game. Gameplay is solid, refining what made up it's predecessors. Battles go by fast (most of the time.) And the battle system is kept from getting old due to having a system where combos can be performed by pressing the a button with the songs beat. Though I can see why Nintendo hasn't released it in the west (controversial topics, extremes Nintendo hasn't gone to in the west.) But if they'd take a chance I'm sure it would sell well.

Mother 3 is one of the greatest rpg’s to ever be released on the GBA. It contains compelling gameplay, beautiful graphics and a wonderful story. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing the game has never officially been released outside of japan (fingers crossed for a switch port 😝). Luckily, the wonderful folks at MOTHER3.FOBBY.NET went through the entire game and translated every bit of text. Using this translation many high quality reproduction carts have been made over the years including the one I purchased from river city retro. The cart is nearly indistinguishable from actual GBA carts. The only difference I can pick up on is that the cart is a tad too tall but thats just me nitpicking. I’ve tested the cart on all the equipment I have and it has worked flawlessly on all of it (GBA MICRO, GBA SP, DS LITE and SUPER RETRO ADVANCED ADAPTER). If you are thinking of picking up an english repro don’t hesitate it is well worth it! Put the emulator down and whip out the old Gameboy because this is by far the definitive way to experience Mother 3.Read full review

“Mother” really is the perfect name for this game—but not because mothers play a large role in the story, but rather that their absence does. More than anything else, Mother 3 is an exploration about the loss of a mother and how that one act topples the lives of all those connected like a series of dominoes. The young boy Claus ventures into the wild to kill the T-Rex-like creatures he feels are responsible for killing his mother; and then he disappears. With the loss of a wife and son, Flint spends his days in the wild looking for his missing son. And the remaining son, Lucas, grows up shy and alone—yet self-sufficient.

I got this for my brother who is a big fan of the Earthbound / Mother series, and he has spent many a day playing it. This translation is very well done and the game plays just like the original released in Japan, making for a rather great port. In general, Mother 3 matches up well to the others in the series with a great story, a rather jamming soundtrack, and the quirky sense of humor you do not find in most games these days. (I've been told the difficulty is equal to that of Earthbound/Mother 2).

This repro is, unfortunately, the only way we're going to be able to get an English release of this game, but I'm not complaining. The quality of the work on both the translation and the cart rivals anything that would have been officially produced. The compelling story is what made me want this (and I had already played it through twice before making this purchase to have a physical copy.)

Mother 3 is among the best games I have ever played with a captivating, emotional story along with a strategic, addictive turn based combat system making it one of the best RPGs ever. I recommend this title to any fan of the Mother/EarthBound series and video games in general. This item was also delivered in a timely fashion only making the experience even more enjoyable.

I have yet to play the rest but this is my favorite game, alongside the last of us. They rein supreme among games in my mind. Be it on a plane, in a car, school, bus, or just lounging around at home, the game play is compelling, the characters are "real," and the story is interesting and fun. I highly suggest thus game and even this retailer. (This is an unauthorized fan translation and therefore illegal so if you morally don't want to play it, learn Japanese).

Game cart w/ fan translation patched in, no glitches, saves without any issues. Note: For those of you who've not played this game, you should know that its tone is much heavier and more somber than Earthbound (Mother 2). Though it retains the series' trademark silly weirdness, Mother 3 mixes in heavy doses of existential dilemma and outright tragedy, making it a truly unique gaming experience. It's as if Mother 3 was made for adults who played Earthbound as children - the game's tone reflects the jaded maturity of 90's kids who grew up to be 2017 adults.

So far enjoying the game immensely, as it should be, on GBA (SP AGS-101 I should add). It really is silly Nintendo never localized this one for North America. I can see why perhaps, with the content being a bit more mature, but the GBA didn't lack for that. Anyhow, this is amazing to be able to experience. Cheers.

This is a great way to enjoy mother 3 in full english how it was supposed to be played, on a gameboy. It works perfectly and the build quality is as good as any other nintendo cartridge. I highly reccomend you purchase this. Fast shipping, great price, and a great game.
