In Imagic's Quick Step, players control a kangaroo as he tries to stay ahead of a squirrel on a series of trampolines which gradually scroll down the screen. The kangaroo and the squirrel can each change the trampolines to their own colors -- green for the kangaroo and blue for the squirrel -- but have to avoid gray trampolines, or gaps left by disappearing trampolines. Falling through a gap or allowing one's character to scroll off the screen costs a life. Obviously inspired by elements of Q*Bert and climbing games like Donkey Kong, Quick Step's best feature is its competitive two-player mode, in which the second player takes control of the squirrel from the computer. Still, despite being a bit of a stew cooked up from ideas established in other games, Quick Step is a fun game for the Atari VCS, and visually one-ups that console's adaptation of Q*Bert.
