A long time ago, in the age of the Qing Emperors, the Han Chinese were forbidden to marry into the Qing, or even to enter the Forbidden City. This had been decreed during the rule of the Manchu emperors. Then, a woman named HeHanQu, a Han woman, met the Qing Emperor Xian Feng. They fell in love, and since she could not enter the Forbidden City, he housed her in Yüan Ming Yüan, the Garden of Perfect Brightness, in a place known as Lian Xi Le Chu, the Lotus Garden. There, the Emperor renamed HeHanQu Lotus Spring, and they spent their time there happily, deeply in love. Unfortunately, Lotus Spring fell afoul of the Dowager Empress, and was eventually imprisoned in the same rooms she had shared with the Emperor in love. The Bridge to the island on which the Lotus Garden rested was burned, and no one knows what became of Lotus Spring. Some say she was killed by pirates. Others that she committed suicide, while others darkly whisper that the Dowager Empress, CiXi had a hand in her death. But no one knows the truth. In this game, players take on the part of the Emperor, returning to the place where he had once known such happiness, and attempting to find out the true fate of Lotus Spring. as he explores, he finds memories of their time together as he explores among the 16 buildings on the island.
