Lexis is a 2D puzzle game very similar to Tetris in style but with gameplay ideas from Scrabble and some elements of Klax. As in Tetris, players have a bin that begins filling up with falling objects. The objects in Lexis are letters of the English alphabet. Players can move these individual letters around and drop them down into the well.
The goal is to form sequences of three or more letters that form English words. These words can be formed horizontally, vertically, and diagonally in a forward or backward direction. Correct words disappear from the pile, causing any letters above them to drop down. By arranging words simultaneously with a single dropped letter or by arranging chains, players can score more points. The game ends when the stack of letters reaches the top of the well.
There are two game modes: standard and page. In standard mode, players must simply score as many points as they can before the well fills up, without any sort of restrictions or requirements. Page mode consists of a series of challenges, similar to the ones found in Klax. Players must drop letters in such a way that they fulfill requirements like three horizontal words, three vertical words or backwards words. When the requirements are fulfilled, players can choose the next page of the book to advance to, with each page having different challenges. The players' current bin is brought over to the new challenge.
