This game is simply THE ultimate in fighting games from Namco. Tekken? Button mashing ridiculousness. Mortal Kombat? much too 2D and played out by the time Soul Blade came out. Battle Arena Toshinden? Nowhere NEAR as much fun as this. Street Fighter (the champ)? Nothin' on this game. So, why Soul Blade you ask? Well, aside from the simple fighting game formula, this game brought in weapons. OK, a few games had brought weapons to the fighting arena as well, but none so well as this. While you can block with your weapon, if you block too long? Well, you'll be fighting bare knuckles for the remainder of the round. Sounds like nothing? Think again, steel against your hands makes rounds fly by, and makes strategy a thing to actually consider in a fighting game. Forget the graphics, they were on par with the first two Tekkens, but beyond that they won't really impress much anymore. The single player was great, because you unlocked new weapons for characters to use during fights, and some of these weapons were DEADLY. Try a weapon that gives you immense damage ability, with no blocking and drains your life slowly over the round? Better finish them off fast. Then there's the new variety of fighters, from two handed sword wielding knight Seigfried to Pole arm slashing Seung Mina, this game had it all. Did I forget to mention that this is where all your precious Soul Calibur games came from? Yep. Minus Ivy, Maxi, Asaroth, Xianqua and a few others who, once you get into this game, aren't really that missed after all. So, over all, outta 10? 9.5 Close to perfection, but what else really is? Find this game. Buy it. Enjoy the intro cinema (it is dated, graphics wise). Play this until your fingers fall off from the sheer nearness of this awesome game.Read full review
A classic fighting ps1 game. Played the original many years ago, and it's still just as fun.
