****(TERRANIGMA)**** Known as Tenchi officially translated (The Creation of Heaven and Earth) in Japan, is a 1995 action role-playing game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System developed by Quintet. Manga artist Kamui Fujiwara is credited with the character designs. It was published by Enix (now Square-Enix) in Japan before Nintendo localized the game and released an English version in Europe and Australia. The game was never officially released in North America. Terranigma tells the story of the Earth's resurrection by the hands of a boy named Ark, and its progress from the evolution of life to the presentday.****(PLOT)**** In Terranigma, the planet (a fictional Earth) is portrayed as a hollow sphere that has both an external and internal face. Since the beginning of the Earth, the external Lightside, the surface world, stood for growth whereas the internal Darkside, the under world, represented decline. Over the course of billions of years, these two forces came to be called God and Devil. Regardless of this inner antagonism, rapid progress took root and primitive life forms evolved to plants, animals, and humans. Technology and industry further expanded civilization, but the fight between God and the Devil was still taking place, more fiercely than ever. The conflict culminated in a final battle in Antarctica, on the surface world. However, neither of the two forces was victorious. The continents of the surface world submerged into the sea and the under world was sealed away. ****(DEVELOPMENT)**** Terranigma was developed by the Japanese company Quintet, which had previously designed creation-themed Super Nintendo games such as ActRaiser and Soul Blazer. Publisher Enix commissioned the developers as a subcontractor and decided for the title to be an action role-playing game for strategic reasons, based on Quintet's experience in that particular genre and the good reception of their earlier games by the Japanese audience. The theme of creation prevalent in Terranigma was introduced as a contrast to the destruction of enemies in other action titles, and to inspire the player's imagination concerning the effects their actions might have. The script of the game was written by director and designer Tomoyoshi Miyazaki, the founder of Quintet, with the scenario provided by Reiko Takebayashi. Tatsuo Hashimoto created the computer graphics cover art and also rendered the background images for the resurrection scenes. The music of Terranigma was composed by Miyoko Kobayashi and Masanori Hikichi, the latter of whom was responsible for the design of the sounds as well. The game is the last title in a loosely connected trilogy consisting of Quintet's Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia. Unlike its predecessors, however, Terranigma wound up never being published in North America because Enix had already closed its US subsidiary by the time the localization was finished. The English scripts of the game used in the European and Australian releases by Nintendo were translated by Colin Palmer, Dan Owsen and Hiro Nakamura. **** This is one the best Action RPGs out there and one of the most sought after by RPG collecters. ************************************* ************************************* (SIDE NOTE)---IF YOU SEE ANY (NSTC) COPIES REPORT THEM BECAUSE THIS GAME WAS NEVER OFFICIALLY IN NORTH AMERICA.Read full review
FinalFantasy6, Chronotrigger, Zelda: Link to the Past, The Secret of Mana; these are the RPGs that everybody is familiar with. They are considered to be RPG classics (I played them all). But the crown jewel of Super Nintendo rpgs is constantly being overlooked. Terranigma is that crown jewel. Terranigma is an action RPG that is spectacular in every way. In terms of graphics Terranigma blows all other RPGs on the list above out of the water. And in terms of story Terranigma's story is very original, and it breaks from the stereotypical 'boy saves world' cliche. The game starts in a normal looking village, shortly you discover a mysterious weapon hidden in the basement. All the villagers becomes frozen and you venture outside of the village in an attempt to bring them back. As you exit the village you notice that the world looks strange, that is because your village had been located at the center of a hollow world. The places that you visit inside the world effects the places that will appear on the surface world. I don't wish to spoil anything, but the story has many twists and turns and is extremely epic and enjoyable. You can pick and throw objects in your environment, like pots (similar to a Zelda title). The combat system is in real time. The main character has a variety of moves which he is able to perform, including a move if it's performed correctly; you jump up and then fall to the ground creating a path of sparks and destruction in your way. After defeating enough enemies a wave of energy surrounds the main character (like in DBZ), causing damage to the near-by foes. The are many different weapons and armor in the world of Terranigma. This RPG has an incredible amount of content, an amazing graphics and sound, action filled combat, and a deep emotional story. Role Playing Game fans MUST play this title, they won't regret it.Read full review

this game is part of the trilogy with soul blazer and illusion of gaia although it plays more similar to soul blazer with a faster pace it takes what made each game great and improves it big time. if you can get your hand an a famicom english copy which was released overseas its worth every penny you pay for it you will not be sorry i cant say this enough its the best rpg youve proly never played
I loved this game, but had no idea what was going on when playing it on famicom. I refuse to play roms and having a reproduction cartridge I can play on my american super nintendo in english and know what is actually going on without the help of a guide is truly amazing. Not to be fooled though with the real thing, because there is no such thing, the game was only released in japan so don't pay over 70$ for a reproduction, that just gives more incentive for people to destroy more old snes cartridges.
