NBA Live 98 was great. EA finally hit its stride in the 3D world with their 98 games. Live saw little progress with 99 but for 2000, EA made the extremely correct move of pulling in not just past NBA legends but also the ability to add Michael Jordan to your roster, after beating him on a 1-on-1 street match. The gameplay didn't really progress too much from 98 to 2000 but it became more refined, and it was perhaps the last good Live game. Certainly before EA went the really arcade way with super fast, wild right-stick dribbling. The 3 point shootout is really odd visually, though. It looks as if only the net and player are rendered, with everything else being a 2D asset. It stands out a lot and it was better on Live 98. The game is playable in the 2020s thanks to dedicated fans although menus will occasionally display odd characters.Read full review
