Gameplay Well, first of all let me start off by saying that this game is definitely TOO HARD. It takes you a long time to get to each checkpoint, which there are five of, and if you get hit once, you're dead. There should be some kind of shield or something because due to ho many enemies there are, getting shot once takes about 10 seconds if you're not expecting it. Enemies can come from the air, ground, and water. They must have thrown this factor in when they made this game because they give you what seems like fifty lives which is still not enough. The controls are responsive and are not too hard to figure out. Enemies will come out of nowhere and move much faster than you allowing them to get to you before you have a chance to react. You also have to constantly press the A button to shoot, which means your finger will be getting very tired very fast. The difficulty makes this game almost impossible to beat(I haven't yet). On the front of the cartridge it even says ''No one ever said it was going to be easy'', so do you expect it to be? Yes, this game is fun however, due to the fact that it is a shoot 'em up game and who doesn't have fun playing a shoot 'em up game? Story From what I can tell, you are during the time period of WW2 and you're flying an airplane trying do destroy all opposition that you may come across. There's really no story, just go out and blow things up. It was a good idea to implement into a NES game. Audio Surprisingly, the audio is not that bad. The opening song is pretty cool and the music that plays during the action makes you want to shoot some more. The sound effects are ok, there's nothing overly spectacular. My only complaint is that the sound that you make when you shoot is very repetitive. I think they could have done something different with that. Other than that the audio is what you'd expect from an NES game. Video The graphics are also very good. You can tell exactly what you're passing over and the planes and tanks are shown on the screen well. The colors are very bright and can catch you off guard if you're not careful. There's nothing wrong with the graphics that is enough of a flaw that would make me want to point it out as being bad here. Summary Overall, this game is worth getting. I did not even know about it until it was recommended to me from a friend who said it was worth a try. I'm here to tell you that it is. “Sky Shark” is a vertical shoot'em up by Taito. If you are familiar to the vertical shooter “1942” then you will have an idea as to the game play that is in Sky Shark. There are a lot of similarities. It is a World War 2 setting and you are flying a lone plane against the enemy. The enemy planes, tanks, etc come at you in patterns. Learning the enemy's patterns and dodging their fire is crucial to staying alive. You have only two weapons, your plane's gunfire and bombs. Power ups are provided by destroying a line of the enemy's planes attacking you. They are noted by being a different color than the other planes. Extra bombs are provided on the ground when destroying certain random targets. I find the game a little more intense than “1942.” It starts off a little hard and never lets up, getting a little harder. For me, the bosses at the end of the stages are a disappointment. For example, at the end of the first stage I really didn't know that I was engaging a boss until it was over. So the fun is really while you are blasting through the stages. If you enjoy the old type “classical” or “retro” shoot'em ups in the style of a 1942, where the action is repetitive and high scoring survival is the goal, then you will enjoy “Sky Shark.” There is good use of color and the graphics are good for the 8-bit NES. Great game but I'm not going to sugar coat anything. This game is brutally hard and difficult right from the start. Right out the gate there are no relaxing moments in this game unless you hit the pause button. Not very many levels but hey the game is so challenging you probably won't make it to stage 2 anyhow.

The main point of this game is the soundtrack composed by a legendary music game composer. Tim Follin have a great historic with memorables musics for games from various plataforms. ZX Spectrum, C64, Amiga, NES, SNES, PS1, DC, PS2,... The game itself is an good shoot'n'up with some goodies like, bombs, gun power ups, addictive gameplay. This is not a rare game, but is an average dificult to find with a cheaper price.
