Product Information
EarthBase 26-B9 is a remote space station that has been overrun by alien robots. You have been ordered to infiltrate and retake the base, destroying the robots currently occupying it.

Xybots uses the sprite scaling capabilities of the Lynx to create a 3D world with 2D graphics. Like first-person shooters, the world is composed of a space that is separated by walls into a maze of tunnels. Unlike first-person shooters, however, you don't view the game from a first-person perspective; instead the camera is situated behind and above your character.

The tunnels are divided into individual squared sections; whenever you move from one section into another, the background graphics move to keep up with you. Within these sections you can move forwards and backwards as well as from side to side at will. But you can only turn left or right in discrete 90-degree turns, meaning you can only face the four cardinal directions.

You are armed with a laser pistol to destroy robots with, as well as a zapper that will freeze everything on screen for a short while. Each use of the zapper costs a portion of your health, though, so you must plan your attacks carefully.

The object of the game is to progress through the stages by finding and entering a warp point. Stages can have multiple warp points, each leading to a different stage. You can collect cash by finding and picking it up, or by destroying enemy robots.

You can also find keys on the ground that can be used to open locked doors. Between each level you will have an opportunity to purchase upgrades with your accumulated cash. These upgrades include items like additional health units and more laser or zapper power.Product Identifiers
