Love this movie - fell asleep while watching it last night so will have to watch again later. I am hopeful that the rest of the film is also excellent. I was only worried because I had ordered 2 dvds previously that were defective. Also appreciate the added free movie with this offer.

One Night with the King is fairly accurate to the book of Esther. One big flaw is that a pagan custom, celebrated by Hadassah's parents and her, has been added to enhance the story. Jews of those days, who obediently followed God's Mosaic Law, did not celebrate birthdays as was the custom of pagan civilizations. This would have been in clear violation of the commandment "Thou shall have no other god before me." Also, the addition of the holographic necklace was a romantic notion, however, it is not in the book of Esther. Simply a touch of Hollywood. It was King Ahasuerus' (Xerxes' in the movie) love for Esther that saved her...not a necklace. Otherwise, the movie was true enough to the events and did a great job of interpreting the book of Esther. The sets and costumes are lavish and pleasurable to the eyes. This movie takes me back in time and gives me a real feel for what it might have been like to live during those times in a grand palace. I bought this movie because I love the book of Esther and for the fabulous cast. The acting was superb. Pay movie channels just don't play these kinds of movies and I would have to wait years to see this, if ever. Also, the movie is morally clean and good for children to view for their supplemental spiritual education (with the exception of the flaws mentioned above, of course). For me, it was worth the cost and I will be seeing it again with my daughter.Read full review
This is one of our all-time favorites! The characters and settings are so realistic. It's the closest to the Bible story that we have found. The bible doesn't elaborate on some of the details so the writers have presented a plausible background in the timeline. The story of Esther is one that we learn a lot about God's deliverance of His people, and their deep belief in God's power. The character of Esther was perfect, much like I'd imagined she'd be. King Xerxes, about 40 according to record, is handsome and passionate. Mordecai, Haman, and all the other characters were chosen well and played the parts so well that you easily get into the story line. It's a great historical, biblical movie!

I feel this is a very accurate portrayal of the story of Esther. It's gorgeous, uplifting and romantic. There are even moments of tenderness and humor. I really feel this is the best portrayal of one of my favorite stories/books of the Old Testament and can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. It simply teaches that obedience leads to blessing and one's faith can move mountains.
This movie was excellent. It showed that one must trust God completely. It also showed our History has not changed much. We have cons, Liars, thieves, and manipulators. We aren't any better off today which is alarming.
