I loved the movie. It is a movie for the whole family to watch. As far as for religion, it was great and did not push one religion. This movie kept me spellbound from start to finish. This movie was uplifting story of the loss and restoration of faith. The western scenery was filmed well, and some of the vistas were simply breathtaking. Actors were a bit young for their parts, but otherwise believable and talented. I'm seldom surprised by movie endings any more, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Sometimes the good guys do win, and they win by honest efforts. The Christian message was a little less intense in this one. There was a great message of charity to others. A good story and nice addition to the series. It's more serious and traumatic with the baby's' death, so it may take some explaining to younger children. This movie has less action and diversity, but starts several years later when they have two children. The drama centers around two events. The first is the loss of their baby daughter who dies in her sleep. The second is a romantic friendship of their adopted son, But the drama in this series is about the couple struggling with their loss, drifting apart, and then coming back together with healing.Read full review

My wife is an avid fan of everything related to the Janette Oke stories. She knows all about her books; and all the follow-up books, also. And she has every video or DVD that has been produced on this theme. This one, Love's Abiding Joy, she got me to order ahead of its release date. I think I remember her doing that with the previous one, also. My wife is a school teacher, so has naturally proposed that I write this review. She says this is a great story, even if it seems to take on a life of its own, beyond the book (a common characteristic of films which spring up from some book). So, if you are undecided about buying this new film, it is Ruthie-recommended; that is all the seal of approval that is necessary. I should know!
I was an avid reader of this series as books. I have read the series multiple times. I was suprised and happy when they came out with the movies though skeptical. Because typically when you love something as a book the movie just does not seem to cut it and you end up feeling disappointed in the movie because they left a lot of stuff out or they changed the story line too much. This is not the case with these movies. Each movie has been a wonderful view into my favorite books. In loves Abiding Joy we follow Missy and Willie on their journey out west. Missie enjoys teaching while Willie takes care of the children and works on their homestead in the far west. Missies dad is supposed to come to visit as they build the railroad close to their homestead. It is a tainted trip due to the death of their young daughter. The couple struggle to stay close while dealing with their grief. It is a good story with lots of lessons learned in love and supporting eachother espically when times get hard. I would recommend this movie to anyone.Read full review
