The Sony DVP-S550D is a multipurpose digital disc player that comes from Sony’s line of audio-visual products. Audio CDs, DVDs, and video CDs are acceptable disc types that can be played on this DVD player. With this Sony DVD player comes SmoothScan technology and SmoothSlow technology. SmoothScan technology allows the DVD system to seamlessly scan forward or backward on inserted discs. This creates smooth image flow as this 5.1-channel DVD player finds the intended point on the DVD. The SmoothSlow technology operates in essentially the same manner as SmoothScan, with the exception that SmoothSlow allows slow-motion scanning of DVD tracks. The 5.1-channel sound capability allows the Sony DVP-S550D to play back surround sound output. With this, sound modes such as Dolby Digital can be played with little to no audio degradation. The Sony DVD player works with various secondary components including standard-definition and high-definition televisions as well as stereo systems.
