This is an ideal text for engineering students who are just starting out, despite the fact that on the surface, it appears to be just like every other college freshman physics textbook. It has, however, a wide variety of discussions on topics that don't normally appear in intro books (such as the section on astrophysics and particle physics). While it is quite long (around 1000 pages) and way over priced, it is an excellent resource and is ideal for those serious about their science education. On another note, as an instructor who uses this text for teaching, I would offer a request to the authors to change the types and formatting of the standard problems which they have at the ends of every chapter. I would suggest adding more multiple choice questions, as well as questions which have more parts, subsections and so on, which clearly test different skills required of the student. Many of the current problems in the book require the student to perform only one or two basic calculations, rather than request several different things (such as a good Advanced Placement exam question).Read full review

I hate Physics with a passion. But someone jacked my old book so I bought this one. I only buy textbooks from Half! Great price, horrible book. You should probably buy this and start reading over the summer if you're going to get anywhere in this class.
