This had started out as a promising series. Starting from vol 1, the great storyline by Bendis on the character he created was foiled initially by poor artwork. In vol 2, the artwork was greatly improved but the there was no story as the total plot was subsumed in some greater Marvel Secret War theme. Vol 3 is the swansong for this series. There are two stories here, both of which are not connected. Furthermore, the first story is divided into two unconnected plots, one involving the birth of Jessica's baby which is interspersed with a great story on D-man, a truly misguided superhero living in a world of his own. If this comic had just this story, it would have scored a 5 star. The plot and artwork was perfect. Instead, the plot involving birth of Jessica's baby and her constantly swearing dialogue was just tiresome. Every character involved in this was poorly developed. This is really mundane stuff. The second story involving an adaptoid was drawn in manga fashion by another artist and was (you guessed it!) another wham bam socko treatment. What a complete non-sequitur! A final goodbye note was penned by Bendis thanking readers for their support, praising this series and his earlier Alias series, and announcing the demise of Pulse and other titles and to watch out for other exciting new titles in which he will be involved. If this is the expected quality, I won't be holding my breath.Read full review
