This movie is like a horrific painting that has come to life. The whole experience is a dreamlike collage. From the opening bars of The Doors "The End" to the symbolic finale. I love it. Like the Godfather before it, Apocalypse Now contains so many memorable lines in it that almost anyone can identify the movie that they came from. Here's a couple: * "Terminate with extreme prejudice." * "I love the smell of napalm in the morning." * "Charging a man with murder in this place is like handing out speeding tickets at the Indy 500." * "Everyone gets what they want in Vietnam - I wanted a mission, and for my sins they gave me one." It may be the definitive war movie even though it was emersed in colors and sounds to give it greater effect. your mission is also to secure a copy for your classified files.Read full review
The Complete Dossier is both versions of this great Vietnam film. It's a neat case as well showing scenes and quotes from the movie. It's both discs in a cardbord case (that looks like a small dossier) lol. Disc 1 has Part 1 of both versions; the Disc 2 has Part 2 of both versions as it's such a lengthy movie, but not boring or repetitous. If you've seen it before you know the plot, and the Redux version, has some nude scenes of the hot Playboy Bunnies at the concert! Yaaa ... This is a violent and repulsive War movie as told (narrated) from the eyes of an Assassin, (Martin Sheen) whom in real life had a heart attack, and may have been the only sane member of the Cast or Crew. They tried to use real cadavers which led to doped and drugged film Crew being arrested, Brando was too fat to film etc. This film is both beautiful (filmed in Philippines) and utterly horrifying, not for the squeamish. "One day this war is going to end"...Read full review

In my opinion this Film is simply one of the Greatest Movies ever to have been made. Most people who feel the same way have either already bought the Original DVD,or the Redux version(An additional 46 minutes is added to the Movie)which was released in 2001.It is also, along with "The Deerhunter" and "Full Metal Jacket" a must have "Classic" of Vietnam War Movies. A brief overview of the Film itself is that a Captain Willard(Played superbly by Martin Sheen)is is Saigon awaiting a "Mission".He is finally asked to locate and kill a certain Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) who has set up a Cult with a tribe way down river, and the authorities state that Kurtz has lost his senses and needs "Eliminating" immediately. This mission begins a journey which tests Willard to his limits, and nearly drives him mad. Enough of the story as anybody who bought this would know this by heart. This version of the DVD is a movie buffs dream as it includes not only the Original, and Redux versions but a full commentary by Director Francis Ford Coppola, and numerous documentaries, trailers etc which will keep any fan of the film occupied for a long time. The quality of the photography has also been cleaned up considerably and we now have a nice clean print of a film that originally was a little "Muddy" in this area.I bought this for about £10.00 which is a bargain and I would recommend this DVD without reservation to fans of the film. If you haven't seen the Film maybe the Original,or Redux versions might be the best place to start and if you enjoy those this should be your next purchase.Read full review
This film is amazing. From start to finish. Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, Robert Duval, my god what more do you want. Everything about this film is great. I can't really review it. It would take six months. Suffice it to say - buy it now! The idea of using the "bomb" was not really considered during the war. The problem as I see it is for some reason people seem to think that this weapon is too violent. Although the result of the use of this weapon is exactly the result of any weapon of war. People die. That's the goal of war. That's why we build weapons. To kill people. Dead is dead folks. If you're shot and killed or vaporized you're just dead. Actually being vaporized is more humane than dying slowly from a gunshot or knife wound or some other painful experience. You don't feel a thing. It's over in a flash. Kurtz's solution would fit today as well. We (the U.S.) have been attacked by these Muslims now for some 40 years. How long do we have to put up with them? We could use the "bombs" to eliminate these people from the Atlantic to the Pacific and the rest of Africa while we're at it and lessen the threat of Aids. Eliminate some two billion people and you've eliminated the biggest threat to this country. You've eliminated 1/3 of the world's population and lessened the pollution and overpopulation problems. We could repopulate the African continent with Chinese and Indians as their countries are so overpopulated. Start over. I know you think I'm sick but if we had used the "bomb" as a threat against Joe Stalin and his gang and Mao and his gang maybe we could have changed those countries into democracies then and we would not have had the "cold war" with all of it's anxieties. Harry Truman and Jimmy Burns simply didn't see the possibilities then (1945). We still have the possibilities now.Read full review
