I purchased this book because I had finally given in to the social "Craze" of the Twilight saga. I was expecting to not take hold of the story and to dismiss it after a few chapters. However, I was mildly intrigued at the beginning and 4 weeks later I have purchased and read the whole series. What I did not like about this book and subsequently all of the books, is that for the genre of young adult reading, she will pursue these diatribes about things of mild importance that could have been concentrated. There were many times that I almost put down the book in the middle of these long expositions that got very boring, very quickly. Outside of that, what kept me reading is that the story itself is fascinating, the dialogue and development between the characters is truly what makes this a great story for me despite my disagreement with her writing style at times. It is a very good and comprehensive take on contemporary Vampires. With this book you had a very content feeling of closure at the end. This book could stand alone and you would be satisfied had you not known there was a whole other world of drama and suspense that followed it.Read full review
I bought "Twilight" because when the t-shrits came out they sold out in a day and I was wondering what all the hype was about. I knew it was a movie coming out, but I had no idea it was first a series of books. So like always when I am curious I jumped right in. I bought "Twilight" and less than 30 hours later (I did have to work LOL) I had finished. The entire time my nose was pressed into the book I had a smile on my face and sometimes I laughed out loud at the romantic tension and casual bantering between the main characters Edward Cullen (a "vegitarian" vampire) and Bella Swan (a girl wise beyond her years who takes care of her father). Although the books are geared to a younger "high school" audience the romance between the characters is all VERY clean. When she realizes what he and his "family" are, although she doesn't fear him in the least, her life is suddenly in danger from a pack of nomad vampires. For parents I'd like to note although it is in its sence a "romance" it is I think, well written and not at all vulgur ("above the neck romance" I heard it described in an article). It is also good to realise that it is books like this series and the Harry Potter series that have gotten teens once again interested in reading which I think makes them noteworthy in themselves.Read full review
This story line, to me, is a very modernize love story. There is a love triangle going on that tears the reader from one side to the other from each book. While Edward has the "words" that every girl/woman wants to hear; Jacob is the best friend that can relate to Bella on a "human" side and in the NOW. Jacob has his moments in which he is witty, but far from the more Shakespearean language in which Edward spouts. Then we come to immortality vs. mortality. What a hard decision to make. I love these books. I could not put them down. I have not had books like these since the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle series was around or better yet when Judy Blume was a hot author. I hope Stephanie Meyer keeps us up to date on the Saga. I love these books and everything about them.
Originally I was introduced to the Twilight series through my ladies book club. I thought it might be juvenile because of the publisher's obvious choice of marketing the book in the "young adult" section of the bookstore. Though it is true that the main characters are still in high school and much of their everyday activities center around a teenagers life, the story itself is universal. It is ultimately a story of falling in love with the wrong person, and of following your heart and not your head (and the consequences of such choices). There is very little violence, and the sexual tension between Bella and Edward is still PG-13. The author writes in a very easy manner but is very adept at keying in to the psyche of a young girl. Twilight is a new twist on a very old story- how a vampire lives among us and has adapted in the 21st century. I would highly recommend this book to anyone from a pre-teen to a senior citizen. I am 35 years old and I have a teenage step-daughter and this book has captured both of our imaginations and given us something fun to share.Read full review
As a 17 year old male high school student, i kind of ignored the idea of reading the epic novel, Twilight by Stepenie Meyer. After seening all of my peers, mostly girls and even some guys reading this book, i was curious to see what all the buzz was about. So i picked up a copy of this book and started to skim through it. Surprisingly it was very entertaining and catching. After reading the first couple of chapters, i just couldn't put it down. Wanting to keep turning the pages to see what would happen next, i finished the entire book in about three days. Twilight has a blend of believable characters, a fantastic, imaginative plot, and a but well-fitting setting; these qualities really set it apart and make it so readable. Whether you are a 14 year old girl or a grandfather of six, you will find something for everyone in this book and i highly recommened this book to anyone and everyoneRead full review
