I recently purchased the The Weird Al Show - The Complete Series (2006, DVD) for the purpose of better understanding Weird Al's Saturday Morning Experiences. As a Weird Al fan - I've purchased every item available regarding the career of Weird Al. Also, I enjoyed seeing many of the past stars in their cameo roles on the show. If you watch the show as presented on Saturday Morning TV - You may find the item mildly amusing. The TV Show did not appear as a monumental success - and I never understood exactly why. Having watched the shows with the Commentary ON - I now have a much better understanding of "the content" and the "Message being pushed by the network" in the shows. Also discovered were "What was Not included in the shows - and Why." The Network Directives dictated much of the content of the Show - thus the reason for "Not attaining the Success that the show and Weird Al deserved." I don't recommend this show for kids - though I believe they might find it temporarily amusing. I don't believe that today's kids will find enough action to keep their attention! However, I do recommend the set for the videophile who has a sense of television history. And, as stated before - the Commentary Version enables an understanding that can't be found anywhere else.Read full review
I would definitely recommend this show for anyone who is a fan of Weird Al and this DVD set is the best way to experience the show. While it is a kids show and the lessons they try to teach kids can be a bit heavy handed, it is still very entertaining to watch, even as an adult. The show is great, but the reason I recommend the DVD over any other way of watching the show is because the commentary is even better, which is a rare thing to be able to say. The commentary has Al and his producers giving insight into the struggles they went through with the network in trying to write funny gags to keep the show entertaining while still maintaining the mandatory lessons the network executives were forcing them to bluntly hammer into children's heads. Throughout the commentary, Al and his crew are hilarious in discussing their challenges with the network censors and they even perform some original versions of bits that were changed or totally cut out to allow the show to ever be able to make it onto the air. Hearing them talk about all the hoops they had to jump through just to get this show into production gives a truly unique perspective into the level of network control and censorship that goes into producing a kids show that you won't find anywhere outside of this DVD set. If you want to take a deep dive into the warped and twisted mind of Weird Al, this is certainly the best way to do it. I cannot recommend this DVD set highly enough... I don't remember it, but apparently this was a series on CBS saturday mornings that lasted one year in 1997. I never saw it when it originally aired, but really enjoyed the DVD. It's pretty goofy, slapstick humor with some classic Weird Al bits in it. Some of the stories are kind of lame, but some of the comedy is really good. Also, there are a lot of star cameos in the 13 episodes with musical guests as well. Very similar to AlTV and definitely worth a view!
It's a nice box and quality is good. The episodes are charming and bizarre, and there are a lot of guest appearances. There might be some technical issues with the DVD authoring - I had to do some strange things on the first disc - it always wanted to play the commentary track, etc.

I love Weird Al and I loved his show, however short-lived that it was. This wonderful program offers us a brief glimpse into the psyche of one who is arguably the greatest mind of ours or anyone's time...ever. Weird Al Yankovic not only makes me laugh and cry out loud, he gives me a reason to go on with my meaningless existence. I, along with the countless voices in my head give The Weird Al Show props for paving the way for such masterpieces as Gone With The Wind, Pride And Prejudice, and the Sean Connery gem; Zardoz.
