It's hard to not be obsessed by this book. It's alot of psychology...thinly veiled autobiography. the honesty is what got me. It's hard to admit that you have psychological disorders...let alone write, in detail about trying to kill yourself and your obsessions. THe main character, Esther, is a great medium to learn about Plath. Her writing is impeccable and when I first read it, I wished she had lived to write more prose. It's a beautiful and stunning piece of work. Just as pleasing to hear and read as her poetry. If you like emotional work, if you can handle raw hate and despair, you need to read this. It changed my writing style. If you're a writer, you REALLY need to read this.
Wow, I really enjoyed getting inside the head of Sylvia Plath, and to try and see the world through her perspective. I had to read this book for a college English course and I am very happy that to have come across this book. I had no idea it existed. I read it all in 3 days. I wish Sylvia would have written more books, it really is fascinating what a mental disorder/disease does to a person's brain/functioning. I really felt that I connected with the author because I too have felt depressed but never to the extremes of the author. I think this book is a must-read and I couldn't put it down.
Sylvia Plath wrote amazing poetry and had a way with words. I wanted to learn more...it is a bit juvinile but interesting.
