Back in 1994 Earthworm Jim was released on the Sega Genesis to quickly become a phenomena. The game would eventually be ported to the Super Nintendo, the Gameboy Advance, and finally the PC but after it's own cartoon show and action figure line. Now your probably thinking why "buy this if there are so many other options?" the answer is the ports are actually incomplete as they are missing an entire level known as intestinal distress...yea. Earthworm Jim was appraised for it's detailed animation, catchy music, well tuned controls, surrealist humor, and it's difficulty. The game itself is essentially a run and gun platform game with lots of places to explore and items to find. Jim was once just an average annelid with no prospects until one day a suit lands on top of him collar first, it proceeds to mutate him giving him the ability to control the suit. You have a laser gun to shoot your enemies as well as other things, Jim's own head which he can detach and whip his enemies with, and of course jumping. If you press the jump button fast enough Jim won't double-jump but rather rotate his head causing him to glide down. Almost any version of the game you get will make the button that shoots the gun a bit of an attack button, later on in the game you switch from just Jim running around to Jim doing something else but the controls don't switch, attack is still attack but jump might be boost or something. Bit of a tip the controls handle well but you have to get used to how Jim will react to situations, I recommend using the 1st level to try and figure out the various ways he reacts think of it as a training level. This game has a lot of variety to it, I suppose a good way of putting it without spoiling much would be every level has a way of shaking things up, making variations to the formula. Which should make it a bit difficult to categorize but in no way are the controls effected and their pretty easy to figure out. Just remember the game can be difficult and depending on the version you get you'll normally start with 3 lives and 1 continue. I bought this game not only for nostalgia but because it's been awhile since I remember a truly good game with original characters and a unique world. With that I recommend this game to anyone with any means of playing it.Read full review
Earthworm Jim was/is a very unique game as it is completely ridiculous in its humor and it’s storytelling mechanics. From the absurd humor to the random-esque happenings during gameplay, like launching a cow into outer space for no reason. The shooting mechanics are simple but fun and the environments are very well drawn with colors that pop from every angle… well it’s 2D but you know what I mean. On a side note: I am very thankful for the world I live in that I can search online and there is always someone that is selling or trading something from my childhood. I lost so much over time due to many hardships. So thank you, and thank you to anyone else who crosses my path that adds a little more to my collection of the childhood I lost so long ago.

This is just some good old school style fun here. One of the biggest video game hits of the 1990's started here. It spawned sequel games, comic books and even a cartoon through the Warner Brothers network (now known as the CW). The controls are simple. They consist of a direction pad and three buttons. That is where the simplicity ends, however. Even with adjustable skill levels, this game is always a challenge. With a sense of humor evident throughout, this tongue in cheek take on super-hero side scrolling adventures will keep you in stitches as well as on your toes. At times you will laugh, and at times you will pull your hair out in frustration (until you figure out the next secret, that is). So, do you think you have what it takes to defeat the evil forces of the universe with nothing but a worm, a super suit, and a ray gun? If so, this is the game for you. If not, it probably is still the game for you, but you just don't know it yet.Read full review
Ive not gotten deep into the game yet as of this time but my experience with it was positive. Nice graphics for a old 16 bit game, nice sound effects, nice music, ect. Earthworm jim has character and has funny animations as well. If your looking for a nice platformer different than Sonic look no farther. Get it while its still decently priced. 😊👍
