Product Information
TalonSoft's West Front and its add-on scenario pack, West Front Battlepack 1, are combined in one package in West Front: Elite Edition. Between the two products, more than 100 stand-alone scenarios that span the years 1940-1945 of World War II on the Western Front of Europe are available. West Front is a hex-based, turn-based, platoon-level strategy war game with both 2D and 3D viewing options.

More than 14 nationalities are represented in the 16 dynamic (7) and linked (9) campaigns. Dynamic campaigns are the basic type of campaign (also known as a Random Campaign Game) found in TalonSoft's East Front and consists of a series of linked, randomly generated scenarios following a specific historical path. The new type of campaign game, known in West Front as a Linked Campaign Game, takes individually designed historical scenarios and links them together with core units carrying over casualties from one scenario to the next, often without the benefit of unit replacement found in the other type.

The tutorial in West Front introduces novice players to the turn-based philosophy and gameplay intricacies of the series by presenting a hypothetical scenario set in August 1944. Called No Time for Training, the scenario mixes three forces (American, Canadian and British) in a combined sea, air and ground strike to capture General von Littwitz, a senior operations and planning officer for the German Army.

No new elements of gameplay are introduced in West Front: Elite Edition and the manual is essentially the original manual from West Front. Several multi-player modes are supported including up to eight players per side in LAN and Internet action, two-player hot seat, play-by-e-mail and modem-to-modem. Complexity of play can range from one or two units per scenario to over 750!

As in the original games, the sheer scope of West Front: Elite Edition is massive with literally hundreds of unit and sub-unit types ranging from infantry and tanks to bicycles and horses. Most are rated in more than a dozen areas such as firing cost, victory points, assault and defense value, starting and ending months and years in terms of availability, armor and strength, just to name a few. More than 40 terrain types are used throughout three major regional environments: desert, Mediterranean and northwestern Europe.

For those interested in recreating World War II's Western Front action from beginning to end, West Front: Elite Edition provides that opportunity. Should the 100-plus scenarios and 16 campaigns not be enough, the game comes with several fully functional editors (map, scenario and order of battle) that allow customized scenario creation with more than 500 equipment and unit types from which to choose.Product Identifiers
