I first received this game in Christmas of 1994. I had this game until 1997 when I lost it. That was the last time I played this cult video game on Sega Genesis. When I thought about this game and other like this I ordered a Sega Genesis back in October as a replacement for the one my older-half brother got for Christmas back in 1990. When I received this game 4 years later. Me and him would play each other day and night until 1996-1997. We'd play each other every day and night before we went to bed for school. I was really and truly addicted to this game lol! I still am to this day when it comes to my early youth. Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition was the Sega Genesis answer to the SNES versions of SF2 Turbo, and Street Fighter 2. Unfortunately, while the Genesis edition of this game was quite good in itself, it couldn't really hold water next to the far superior SNES editions. SF2: SCE is a great game. It's basically SF2: Turbo for the Genesis. Chun-Li has the fireball, Ken has the Fire Dragon punch. Ryu has the True Fireball Hadoken. And so forth. Six-button Genesis gamepads are supported natively, and you have the eight turbo speeds available, just like SF Turbo did. But some things just cant hold up to competition. The graphics aren't as strong as Turbo. The sound is good for Genesis, but Turbo wins there, too. Controls were also more crisp on the SNES as well. So, for nostalgia purposes I would say sure, buy the Genesis SF2 game. As it's not bad at all. But for the 16-bit era, the superior version will almost unanimously be SF2 Turbo by most retro gamers standard.Read full review

To many yap about the snes version being so much more when it's not it's just nintendo babies crying. Both versions for snes and sega are different but both are a blast and honestly in today's world both snes and sega can be had for ton less then a modern day system alone. Much better than playing this game on PC is playing on console. We use AtGames Sega Megadrive. Graphics, sounds and styling of this game returns you to early 90's. Blanka, Dhalshim and other characters from this game are well known for everybody,who played this type of games almost thirty years ago. This game is rival of Mortal Kombat 2, Brutal: Battle of Fury, etc.

I vaguely remember owning this back when it was initially released and trading it in for "Super SFII" when it came out. Now I own it again. :) If you plan on purchasing this, I highly recommend owning or picking-up a 6-button controller, preferably TWO... invite friends over for a beating. There are quite a few subtle differences between this and "Super SFII". basically boiling down to "Super" having approx. a dozen or so more 'moves' per character and the introduction of 4 new playable characters. Long story short, if you're not a collector or a Capcom/SF fanboy, I honestly recommend going with "Super SFII", but this game is great in it's own right. So 4 stars due to being rushed released only to release an upgraded version a year later. Side Note(Rant): This is something of an example of Capcom's greed, as they rushed out arguably minor game upgrades, then tacked on prefixes and subtitles to the name "Street Fighter II" for almost 2 decades before updating the roman numeral and actually changing the graphics engine. SF2 is one of the best fighter genre games on the sega genesis on the same level as mortal kombat (although they are both great and hard to compare). This game is fast paced and has excellent graphics and music for its time. This is a must have for sega genesis owners.

The special moves can be a bear to get used to on a Genesis controller. Once you learn them, however, this game can make for hours of pixely fun. For some unknown reason, the Genesis version keeps you coming back more than the Super NES version. The CPU on the hardest difficulty isn’t super cheap like other games such as Samurai Shodown. The BGM has some really technically impressive FM patches, although unfortunately the entire audio system doesn't come together well at all. Behind the scenes, the game program has quite a bit of high-level bloat that creates unnecessary slow-down. The developers of the Genesis version were their own worst enemies here. This cart has a hidden debug mode that I haven’t been able to activate.

I bought this product bc I used to have it when I was younger. It's just as I remember it, fun! I like the animation and the colorful backgrounds that really pull you into the game as you play. The one thing that really throws me off is the game control. I'm used to the Mortal Kombat series, and the character control is not as tight as those on Mortal Kombat. Not to say that character control in this game is bad, because it's not bad at all; just different. The ease of the moves is what makes this series one of the most fighting series. Overall, this is a very good game and worth the buy.
There was a great battle between the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis during the 90's and this game became a staple in that battle. SNES had street fighter 2 turbo and Sega had street fighter 2 championship edition. Now I own both games and from a pure sound perspective the SNES wins hands down! But as for gameplay (need a 6 button controler) speed and presentation, Championship Edition wins without doubt. This is be far, one of the best fighting games ever made and a must have.
