Excellent book for homeschooling. which is primarily what we're using it for. We're an outdoors family, and use books like these often in our day to day lives. The picture quality and brief descriptions make this book indispensable. From kangaroo rats to walruses, excellent skull plates and species accounts. Very informative and easy to look through.

The Fiona Reid version is much more up to date than the old. However, in the case of Cervis nippon Yakushimae, the range map indicated is slightly inaccurate, in that only Assateague Island in MD is denoted. This species was first introduced in MD to Dorchester County in 1913 and later on Ass. Isl. The skull keys are fantastic and the descriptions are concise. An A+ Recommendation for anyone in need of Mammalian Identification. MC Smith Wildlife Biologist TarBay Hunt Club, Inc.

I found this book to be very thorough and detailed. Easy to identify mammals of all sizes. Much more than a field guide (actually, a little heavy for a field guide) but a great read. I've already spent a lot of time just reading about various local mammals that I have rarely or never seen.
JUST LOOK AT ALL THOSE AMINALS YOU CAN BE GANDERIN' AT WHILE YOU TAKES A SHIT!!! WONDERIN' UH WHUT TYPE UH BAR YOU JUSS SEEN IN THUH WOODS? THIS BOOK'LL BE TELLIN' YA IN NO TIME!!!
