They're good, at first, it was a little too much "Ricky Lee Jones" for me ... I like a little stronger Blues, i.e. Derek Trucks, Mule, ABB ... But the more I listen to the CD, the more I like it. The band is very "tight" and the lyrics are excellent. Nice to have a band that doesn't live off of "covers". It's a nice addition to my Blues library, and best when I'm in the "chill" mood ... like commuting to work early in the AM ... I just might have to catch them live in Pittsburgh on 3/27 ...
I recently discovered Grace Potter on "Storytellers" TV. I was stunded by her plethora of talent at such a young age (30 6/13). Since, I have been collecting and studying her available media and have found this combo to be my favorite! Granted, she has come far since 2005 with a stage presence that can only come by experience, but this CD/DVD combo explores Grace Potter in the "GRACE" of her raw talent that I adore and envy! Grace Potter is foremost an amazing vocalist. At the same time her ability to capture, amplify and transend emotion as a songwriter is phenominal. As a keyboard player she can spin a Leslie speaker with a Hammond like there is no tomorrow! This disc is my favorite when it comes to the Grace of spinning Leslie! Every track is simply a treat!
GP&N's second album is there second best cd next to ther current 2010 self titled album. Many of the songs have a smooth Bonnie Raitt sound and others really rock out quite a bit. My favorite tracks are "Toothbrush And My Table", "Some Kind Of Ride", "Joey", "2:22", and Nothing But The Water Parts 1 & 2. Overall I give this album 4 out of 5 stars.
This is a fantastic cd for any mood you're in! If you're feeling down, listening to it will pick you up and revive your spirit! If you are already in a great mood, this cd will enhance that feeling and keep you rolling through your day.. or night! My favorite time to pop it in is when I am overwhelmed and completely stressed out - ready to collapse or just give up on the day! The title track - Nothing but the Water - builds up to the most energetic, rhythmic, inspirational peak, then slows down at the end to completely remove every last ounce of stress from head to toe. :)
This band has got to be one of the better unknown blues bands playing right now. If you haven't taken the time to listen yet then do yourself a favor. This was recorded in a barn live and what a show it was. Catch them live if you get the chance Grace Potter is a true artist.
