Like many people buying these old SB28s, I'm using them for camera trapping. The battery life on standby is excellent, and if you're using the Camtraptions flash triggers, they wake in time to fire on the first shot, This applies when you're using Canon cameras as well as Nikon's. They're also surprisingly small and I find the distance scale on the back useful for getting the power setting and distance into the ballpark without having to remember guide numbers and break out a calculator.
All the holes were right and size was good, but the screw-on nut fit too tight to work well. It was no cross-threaded, and screwed on straight, but with a lot of torque (does not turn freely)
