I watched this on BBC America. I like John Barrowman and Eve Myles. This seems to be the final installment of the series. To me, it was very sad, heart wrenching to be exact. Like the title says, it deals with children (of the Earth). If you have the other two seasons of Torchwood, you will probably want this. IF you know nothing about Torchwood, I would discourage you from watching this one. Torchwood is a DR WHO spin off. Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) heads the Torchwood - Cardiff Branch. Torchwood is a secret organization that deals with aliens. There are several other people that round out the team, including Owen Harper, the medical doctor; Toshiko Saito (Sato), the computer/technology expert; Ianto Jones, office clerk whose character develops and expands throughout the series. Gwen Cooper is the curious policewoman who become a new recruit. There are some crossovers when these characters appear in specific Dr Who episodes. The Doctor is referred to but never appears in Torchwood. Martha Jones appears in one episode of Torchwood Season 2. The first two seasons are exciting adventure and melodrama. IF you like Dr Who, you will probably enjoy Torchwood. Russel Davies did make this spin off intentionally a bit darker than Dr Who.Read full review
I'm a huge 'Doctor Who' fan, so naturally, I decided to give 'Torchwood' a try. While the first season was a little rough around the edges, especially by comparison to its parent show, the show got much better as it went on. 'Children of Earth' is phenominal, spectacular, and just downright amazing! The storyline is brilliant and very well thought-out. Even thought the story is obviously fiction, it is presented in the most realistic way possible, and is actually quite believable (all things considering). Needless to say, the acting is phenominal. John Barrowman always satisfies as Captain Jack Harkness (no pun intended), Eve Myles is brilliant and electrifying as Gwen Cooper, but Gareth David-Lloyd steals the show as Ianto Jones (particularly in 'Day Four'). Definitely worth your time, whether or not you watch 'Doctor Who' (although you get so much more out of it if you do). One of my professors is not a 'Doctor Who' fan, but abolutely loves 'Torchwood', and you can't beat 'Children of Earth'. A fantastic show and a must-have for anyone looking for something to watch.Read full review
I was suckered into Torchwood after having watched Doctor Who with David Tennant as the tenth doctor... I immediately fell in love with Captain Jack Harkness, both the character and John Barrowman as the actor who portrays him. It was interesting to see the differences (and similarities) between Captain Jack and the Doctor; first and most importantly with the individuals/companions that they surround themselves with. In Torchwood: Children of Earth, it has been some time since the loss of the other two teammates Toshiko and Owen, thus Jack, Gwen and Ianto carry on with protecting the Earth from the dangerous threats of aliens. Though this series/season is much shorter than the previous, it makes up for it in its dramatically. *SPOILERS* And of course when you cling on for dear life on what's left of Torchwood, not everyone will make it through to the end... With that said, I am not really too keen on carrying on to watch Season Four. I feel that the heart of the show after watching series three will be lost, but hopefully there will be some (expected) surprises.Read full review

Why you bought it I'm a HUGE dr who fan, and for those of you who aren't not familuar with that series. Its the longest running show in UK TV history. 45 years as of 2009. Torchwood is a spin off of Dr who. Children of earth is the thirs series for torchwood. But, you don't need to watch series 1 and 2 to get it. These 5 episodes stand on they're own. Its truly brilliant. What you like most about it. JOhn Barrowman. Orginally born in Scotland, his parents moved to the US when JOhn was very young. He grew up in the Chicagoland area and went to school here. Now, JOhn is back in the UK. Doing all kinds of brittish TV and i had heard rumors he will be joining the cast of desprite housewives in 2009-10. John is an AMAZING actor. What you dislike about it. nothing. its well worth buying a copy.Read full review
Captain Jack is back in all his weird and wonderful ways. Miracle Day is a science fiction themed political intrigue with convoluted plot twists. As with the 2 previous series fast paced action is balanced with dry wit and brilliant writing. They keep you guessing wrong and looking in the wrong direction like a stage magician performing a grand illusion. At the same time they make you care for the characters. Its the type of story that pulls you in multiple direction at the same time. There will be times when you going from laughing to crying to what just happened.
Science Fiction done right
