A mix of space western, comedy, and drama, SERENITY follows captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and his ragtag crew as they trade their way around the edges of civilized society. Of particular interest are two passengers they take on, Simon and River Tam (Sean Maher, Summer Glau), a brother and his telepathic sister on the run from the corrupt governing Alliance. As notorious former members of the anti-Alliance opposition, Mal and his crew make it difficult for Simon and River to stay hidden. Everything goes completely awry when a government assassin is sent to retrieve River. As Mal is forced to choose between his close-knit crew and the brother and sister newcomers, it becomes apparent that River harbors both a dangerous secret and astounding fighting powers, and Mal decides that discovering the truth about what she knows might just be worth his time.Many of the film's action sequences revolve around Summer Glau's martial arts skills in her portrayal of River. Glau prepared for her role with Hong Kong stuntwoman Ming Lu, as well as stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and Hiro Koda, and as a resulted performed nearly all the stuntwork herself. In addition to the stellar stunts, realistic graphics, and an often haunting score, the film's actors display a rare chemistry that brings viewers both into their lives and into a possible version of humanity's future.

Surprising good, with a little bit of comedy and action
I was never a fan of firefly the series before I saw this film. But after hearing about it and listening to somme of the music that came from the film I decided to give the film a try. Now I want to see the series just so I can learn the background of the characters a little more. Surprising the film was excellent and had a nice touch to it. The best part about the film was that it didn't have aliens and other stuff in that nature. It was just humans trying to survive in space and the normal outlaws here and there trying to make a living. The film has a nice cast of characters, everyone doesn't seem to have anything in common, but they all just have that vibe that makes it work. Another thing I like was how there was comedy mixed with action, giving you a good laugh here and there. The special effects were pretty good too, the plot also had a nice pace to it flowing smoothly from begining to end. The best thing I liked was the music, it just has that little extra and its relaxing in a way. I've been looking for the soundtrack for the film, but so far no luck. To sum up, I think this is an excellent film to add to your collection. The fact that it offers something different than the everyday sci fi films.Read full review

Serenity movie
This was a great addition to the tv series, Firefly, which should not have been cancelled. The movie was a bit more serious than the series, but still had it's comical moments. Nathan Fillion was an excellent leader to the group of misfits that inhabited the Serenity, each playing their parts in total devotion to their captain. The ending was very climatic and victorious for the group, though losing part of their crew. I would definitely recommend this movie.

One of my all-time favorites, this movie is a must see for any and all Joss Whedon(director/creator also, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tv series which was preceeded by the movie in the 80's-the comparison night & day!) fans!! This movie is a follow up from the 'FIREFLY' Tv Series which I had never watched or heard much about prior to seeing this movie. I loved this movie so much that I had to purchase the one and only season of 'FIREFLY' (14 episodes) with tremendous disappointment that the show had been cancelled, even so I still bought the set. Nathan Fillion was introduced to me in the 'Buffy' series as 'Caleb' and had such a strong presence on screen dispite the fact that he was cast as an uber evil of all evils. Therefore, I knew this movie had to be great! (so was 'SLITHER' btw, he is cast main in that as well) Lastly, thankfully, some one came to their senses and requested that Whedon continue the 'FIREFLY' series and it is now in it's 2nd season (spring 2011) as far as I know-I haven't been able to catch the first episodes yet but, I'm confident they will be great! If u are into SCI-FI the least bit, this movie is worth your time! ENJOY!Read full review

Serenity is an Action Packed Adventure
This is one incredible movie. No, you don't have to be familiar with the series to enjoy it, but the familiarity will make several moments in the movie that much more tragic. The action here is incredible, and unlike several of the Star Trek movies, the characters don't deviate from their series personnas. The emotional impact of several scenes is so intense it was hard to stay seated (a crash landing sequence can almost give you motion sickness). This brings a satisfying end to the storyline the original series had started. It's a shame the show never got to tell this story in its entirety. You can see where some parts of the movie are rushed in a way. Something that could have been stretched over weeks in a series had to be handled in minutes, and that robs it a little. But you have to applaud Whedon for being able to tie up all the loose ends he started with just two hours. Shame on the network for cancelling this, but congratulations to Whedon for giving the fans--both old and new--the ending the show deserved. Heroes will shine, and some will fall, but Serenity will live on. Now bring the show back!Read full review

Serenity
The movie carried on with where the short-lived TV series left off. The theme of the movie was to show how some future government followed in many governments of the past in that that future government thought that it (the said future government) knew better how their citizens or subject knew how to lead their lives. Sort of a study in micromanagement. The Refers (the crazed, killer outlaws) were discovered to be the consequence of a mass drug experiment of this future government. The point of the show is that of the series ---- promotion of the individual as apposed the varied and seething masses. I enjoyed it a lot and recommend it.
