Best Oscar-winning Animated Film with "Spidey Bells" Sung by Chris Pine at the End Credits!
The "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" Blu-ray, DVD and book are of value to me as the film won the 2019 Oscar for "Best Animated Feature" and is presented in its original CinemaScope aspect ratio of 2.39:1. The end credits include the song "Spidey Bells (A Hero's Lament)" (sung by Chris Pine) which is removed from some TV prints of the film.
The film is colourful and visually stunning with avant-garde glitch effects, called "chromatic aberration", in its animation handled by Sony Pictures Imageworks, giving the movie a unique and nostalgic comic-book feel. In 3D, the film's visual effects are accentuated. In its initial 2018 theatrical release in Singapore, the film was shown flat only. So, I flew to Bangkok to see it in 3D with Thai subtitles in the Krungsri IMAX, Paragon Cineplex and I was even given a pack of 3 USA-made "Spider-Man" promo-cards. Later, I saw it unsubtitled in Malaysia's TGV Tebrau IMAX Cinema. Both IMAX cinemas were top-notch: a very large and bright screen (no dimming of the cinema lamp or project bulb) and robustly loud Dolby Digital Sound (such that I could not hear other patrons' talking, snoring and eating).
My favourite sequence in the film is when Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) stands before Peter Parker's tomb in New York. Then, Peter (Chris Pine) appears behind Miles. The latter causes the former to lose consciousness and both get tied to each other with spider web.
They are chased by the police who report "A child dressed like Spider-Man, dragging a homeless corpse behind a train", and they end up taking a snowman's head with them!
I will enjoy watching "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" Blu-ray and DVD at home as the cinemas nowadays have merely an incredibly dull fare of insipid remakes and rehashed sequels.
