The texture of these pastels requires some getting-use-to. They are on the drier side, BUT, they are as easy to use. The technique to use them is slightly different from using those creamier pastels (e.g. Sennelier Mungyo etc). Some artist may not like that they aren’t as opaque. But I love love that I can layer them without worrying the top layer completely cover the under layer. Some beautiful effects come out of this. Also when I use Sakura to draw, q tips blends way better than using pastels themselves or using fingers. It might be because of the paper. I need to create more paintings to see. The range of colors are really nice. It includes a few neons which I actually really enjoy using. Some minor things, the box is compact, light weight, and can lay almost flat, which is a huge plus to me. Quality of the box is nice. This means I can take them en plain air. In short, I like this product and I’m very happy I get the full set wood box. In my opinion, the value is higher than the paper box set. The attached picture is done solely by the Sakura pastels except one white stroke done by Sennelier.Read full review
