I already had a copy of it. I wanted the New Penguin Course by Nicholas J. Brown dated 1996. The earlier one by Fennell is very typical, and leaves you searching for explanation. As the language is extremely complicated, it was hard to progress. The new one explains all the why, hows and wheres, and progress is so much easier. I wish they both came with cd's though. I found a great one with cd's called Liv ing Language Russian coursebook which I can listen to and repeat in the car. I use the New Penguin course for grammar and explanations and sentence examples. I use the Penguin course for additional sentence examples. All that, and after 5 years I'm finally getting somewhere!
Very easy to understand, this book has made basic Russian attainable within a few days! I am excited to continue through this book, it's very comprehensive and covers all you need to know for someone just beginning the language.
