The HP LaserJet 5 Workgroup laser printer is a monochrome laser printer that comes with 4MB of memory and can print up to 12 A4 pages per minute at 600 dpi maximum resolution. As its name suggests, this laser printer belongs to the HP LaserJet series designed specifically to handle both business and consumer printing needs. Contributing to the HP LaserJet 5’s speed is a 33 MHz Intel processor and the preinstalled 4-megabyte, 72-pin SIMM RAM. With three empty memory slots, this particular printer model’s memory can be upgraded to 68MB to make it more responsive and to allow it to store more print jobs simultaneously, if needed. With a maximum monthly duty cycle of 35,000 pages, this HP LaserJet is ideal for both small offices and homes. The HP LaserJet series is fully compliant with EPA Energy Star standards, and this model is no exception with its 290-watt operational power consumption, which goes down to 100 watts during standby/sleep. This energy efficiency does not only translate to reduced power consumption and lower operational costs, but also a lower carbon footprint for the HP LaserJet series. Operational costs can be further reduced with the high-capacity HP LaserJet 5 toner cartridge that yields up to 8,800 pages. Toner cartridge refills can be ordered online via the HP website, and toner cartridges can be replaced without calling in a technician. This HP LaserJet’s input tray can hold up to 350 pages, while the output tray can handle up to 250 sheets. The HP LaserJet 5 can be wired to a network via parallel, LAN, and RS-232 serial cable; an adapter is needed to connect it to a computer’s USB port, or a conversion cable from parallel port to USB can be installed. The HP LaserJet 5 is a versatile workhorse too, as it can handle a wide variety of media types, including envelopes, labels, plain paper, and transparencies.Supported paper sizes include A4, A5, Executive, Legal, and Letter. PostScript support is standard and can simulate PCL 6 and PostScript 2. Supported envelope sizes include International B5, International C5, International DL, Monarch, and US No. 10. The HP LaserJet 5 includes 35 Type 1 and 45 TrueType fonts. Like any HP LaserJet, drivers for a wide variety of operating systems are already included, including drivers for Apple Mac OS 8 up to Mac OS X, IBM OS/2, Microsoft Windows 2000, up to XP. When connecting it to a PC, if the OS is not able to recognize the printer, just go to the HP website and download a suitable driver for your equipment. Although Windows 7 support is not built in, there is an available firmware driver for Windows 7. Driver installation is facilitated with help from the HP Driver Installation Manager software. Look for the downloaded file on your machine; then just click and install with the touch of a button. During operation, troubleshooting is facilitated as the type of error is displayed on the screen. With all the above features, the HP LaserJet 5 is ideal for both businesses and homes.

okay, but print quality is not that good.
tried 2 printer cartridges and the print field still has a faint area in it.
