Product Information
The story of William Wallace has remained shrouded in mystery, due to that fact that much official history was written by Wallace's enemies, the British. Here, the events presented in Mel Gibson's film BRAVEHEART are examined in an effort to separate truth from fiction, revisiting the Scotland of over 800 years ago, a place beset by conflict and driven by rebellion. When King Edward I assumed sovereignty of Scotland, he underestimated the determination with which his efforts would be fought, and at the forefront of the Scottish uprising was William Wallace. An enormous man well-schooled in the fighting arts, Wallace was motivated not only by his sense of justice, but by a personal vendetta: his father was killed at the hands of a British knight, whom the warrior eventually fought and killed. Beginning with his nebulous early years, the documentary follows Wallace as his movement gains momentum, ultimately leading to a face-off with King Edward himself. Braveheart's tragic capture and gruesome death only added to the grandiosity of his legend, the historical veracity of which is determined here.Product Identifiers
