I bought each of my teens one for Christmas this past year and have been envious since. Finally found one for a great price and bought it. the software isn't great but not as terrible as it's made out to be by some. There are alternatives out there but some I've tried are poorer than the Olympus software. Too bad Oypus gave up on this unit, as I could see that a next generation unit would be better yet...Apple seems to have cornered the market on cool (to some), but not necesarily on value. This is a unit I would recommend to anyone that has a mind of their own.
I recieved the M:Robe MR 100 for Christmas, and I absolutely love it. The design is very sleek and stylish- black with red LCD. The touchscreen is a nice feature opposed to traditional button models. Another thing I really like about this player is the ability to add lyrics along with the songs. Olympus has provided good updates that fix the previous volume and software issues. Also, with some online research, I learned that you can customize the startup screen, charging screen, and all other standard images on the player. I agree that the software mtrip can be somewhat annoying, but other song transferring options can also be found online. Overall, I think this is a very unique, attractive, and efficient alternative to the ipod.
Great sound quality, easy interface, good battery length, easy to use with an FM transmitter. Only negative would be updating the firmware from the Olympus website is annoying but easy and only has to be done one time.
I bought my first m:robe in October because of the price and hard drive. I just purchased 2 from an e-bay auction(one for my husband and one for my daughter). It is extremely easy to use and while it doesn't support Drag and Drop, you can "drag and drop" WMA files into m:trip, its software program. I use it not only for music, but for recorded books I download free from our public library. When you pause the book before turning the m:robe off, the book will resume at the same spot when you power it back on. The m:trip program will also play the music or book on your PC or laptop. I would recommend the m:robe to everyone.
I hate this mp3 player. One year warrenty my ass. I took it back to the place of purchase and told them it needs to be repaired and they said it is not covered in any warrenty. First a dent then its corroded 2 weeks later. The player was ok for 10 months then died the next day. I highly recommend spending a little more and getting the ZEN Vision M from Creative Labs. 30 GB, full color screen (Not just Red), can transfer pictures and video, superior sound and also headphones that are even not like the crappy ones that come with this crappy mp3. Also it is a flash drive so you can use it during workouts and it won't skip. Trust me.
